Facilities and Infrastructure

The teaching and learning facilities and equipment (lecture halls, classrooms, project rooms, etc.) are adequate and updated to support education and research

 

The system of classrooms and lecture halls are arranged according to the general conditions of the University. The common use area of ​​the University is 3.1m2/student the average ratio for each class is 85.6m2/classroom, in accordance with the regulations of the MOET. These lecture halls and classrooms are allocated in 7 blocks: Block G, Block A-B, Block B-C, Block B, Block C, Block I, Block M. In order to ensure that the lecture halls meet the teaching and learning needs of staff and students, the University arranges a staff to serve in the waiting rooms, including on evening, in Saturdays, and Sundays if classes are available. There are 76 lecture halls with fixed installation of multi-function projectors. All lecture halls have projectors and screens. Some smart classrooms in Block G and Block B-C are equipped with high quality equipments (projectors, screens, speakers, electronic boards, air conditioners). Instruction for using projectors is posted on the podium of classrooms and lecture halls. The use of lecture halls and classrooms varies from semester to semester, depending on the student's registration status and the schedule and the lecture hall arrangement of the University’s Office for Academic Affairs. Accordingly, students will be arranged to study in large and small classrooms with different equipment conditions to meet the requirements of the modules.

 Depending on the using purpose, the Faculty will propose large or small classrooms, with different areas to suit the faculty's training program as well as research activities. The faculty also regularly teach in smart lecture halls, “flexible” classrooms with single chairs with tables attached which are suitable for new teaching conditions and methods (discussion, group work, etc.).

In addition, students of the Faculty have access to self-study rooms at the Faculty’s library (room 107- Block D), room 102- Block E and self-study room at the library system of VNU located at 1st floor - 4th floor of Block M. The self-study rooms are equipped with tables, chairs, wireless network and newspaper, magazines so that students can study by themselves or take breaks after classes. In general, the self-study room system is quite diverse, meeting the needs of students.

In addition to the system of classrooms and lecture halls, the University also has grand hall, conference rooms, meeting rooms of different sizes and capacity to serve for seminars, conferences, academic exchange activities, professional training for lecturers, instruction of learning methods, scientific research for students, and student seminars etc. These rooms include 8th floor Hall at Block E, Room 506, 305, 306 - Block E with total area of ​​1200 m2. The FPS has been using these system of rooms to support the training and research activities of lecturers and students.

About the Faculty’s working space: The Faculty’s office space is on the 2nd floor of Block C, including 05 working rooms, one material room and two meeting rooms for professional activities and other activities of the Faculty. The working rooms are equipped with computers, printers, document cabinets and equipment to ensure lighting conditions and appropriate temperature (lights, fans, air conditioners).

Every year, the University conducts a review and inventory of its property, then making a plan to replace, supplement and upgrade more equipment as appropriate, in order to best meet learning, teaching and research.

In order to improve service quality, in every academic year, the University has surveyed the evaluation of learners about the quality of services and support activities for learners, including equipment, facilities. , internet, sanitation, dorm quality etc...

 

9.2. The library and its resources are adequate and updated to support education and research

During the process of training and research, students and lecturers of the FPS can borrow textbooks, monographs, reference books, newspapers, magazines as well as materials for learning and research at the Center of Information and Library of VNU, or at the library of the Faculty.

The VNU Library and Information Center currently has 217,544 book titles, with 132,544 books specializing in social sciences and humanities https://lic.vnu.edu.vn/vi. However, if calculating the number of documents in all forms of resources, the number of documents related to Political Science in the Library's database is up to hundreds of thousands of titles, specifically there are 768,095 copies in relation to Political Science in English; and 1000 copies in Vietnamese (including 127786 copies of monographs and textbooks, 49684 copies of reference material, 15935 copies of dissertations and theses and many other types of references). Besides information resources in the form of printing, there is also an electronic information resource system, which is very convenient in searching for learning materials. Electronic materials related to Political Science include 500 copies. New digital library system has been put into use with friendly and convenient interface (https://lic.vnu.edu.vn/en/gioi_thieu or https://bookworm.lic.vnu.edu.vn/ Default.aspx). The VNU Library and Information Center has many measures to encourage officials and learners to effectively exploit documents in the electronic document system, and provides guideline for readers to search the documents easily. VNU Center of Information and Libary regularly sends staff to training units, to each lecture hall to update readers about the new facilities of the Center. The Center also has an organized system of working regulations and clearly sets the service time for readers.

The VNU Library and Information Center has links with a number of local and national libraries, those of universities, domestic research institutes and foreign research centers and universities to provide additional resources for readers. Especially, there is access to the source of dissertations of universities and research institutes in the world related to the field of social sciences and humanities in general and political science in particular, which is up to 2.6 million copies of nearly 1,000 universities and research institutes around the world (for example, the link http://search.proquest.com/pqcentral/index; http://www.theses.com etc.) In addition, the library also has facility to support domestic exploitation, which is the database of the National Department of Science and Technology Information (http://db.vista.gov.vn/). The center regularly sends email to users of emails @ vnu.edu.vn to inform about new resources, lists of books and magazines that are cited worldwide etc.

In addition to the document and information system provided by VNU Library and Information Center, the FPS also has its own material rooms located on the 2nd floor of Block C. It consists of two rooms: Room 213C for books and magazines and Room 208C for bachelor, master's and doctoral theses. The Faculty has asigned an on-site administrative officer at the office following specific schedule to support students, lecturerss and readers in need. The method of borrowing and returning documents is simple and flexible (recording, signing for confirmation in the notebook). The room has full seats to serve the lecturerss and students (there are 20 seats in the library) and often receives positive feedback. Documents of the library system are supplemented, updated regularly every year or periodically according to the needs and recommendations of the Faculty's departments on specialized books directly serving the training and specialized research of the Political Science field.

The current document system of the Faculty consists of nearly 2,000 learning materials covering various fields such as monographs, textbooks, magazines, conference proceedings, theses, dissertations, scientific research reports, of which, there are 625 documents in Vietnamese, 500 documents in foreign languages ​​such as English, French, Chinese, Russian, Japanese, and 158 graduation thesis, 26 doctoral theses and nearly 300 master's theses.

In particular, compulsory references in the module syllabus of the Politics curriculum can be found in the Faculty’s library.

The laboratories and equipment are adequate and updated to support education and research

The FPS belongs to social sciences and humanities, so it doesn't have a lab. However, in order to equip practical knowledge in the field of Political Science for students, every year, the Faculty organizes practical internships for students in localities, agencies, universities and research institutes relevant to the field of Political Science. Currently, the website www.khct.ussh.vnu.edu.vn and facebook page “FPS/FPS” of the Faculty has introduced many pictures of the Faculty's activities including the field trips of students. To practice and research in the field trips, besides the knowledge and skills equipped in the training program, the Faculty also supports a number of equipments for students such as cameras, recorders for students to effectively collect data. At each internship, students will be able to borrow these equipments at the Faculty’s material room through the academic advisors and return them after the internship.

In the PBP, the University’s Center of Information Technology Training and Application is used for practicing the methods of data processing for some modules of the Faculty. In every academic year, the University arranges the module of data processing of the Faculty to be taughed at the computer room of the Center for Information Technology Training and Application (with an area of ​​350m2 and 300 computers) on the 2nd-3rd floor of Block B-C. SPPS data processing software is installed for Political Science students to practice. Equipments of the Center of information technology training and application is supplemented, replaced and upgraded every year to ensure the effectiveness of IT training and practice and quantitative and qualitative data processing in research.

 

 The IT facilities including e-learning infrastructure are adequate and updated to support education and research

The University's information technology system is fully equipped to support research and training activities. The information technology network and quality is constantly being updated, replaced and upgraded to meet the ever-increasing demands of officials, lecturers and students in the process of international integration. Internet access bandwidth is stable (10Mb international, 100Mb domestically); Stable internal network system was maintained, basically ensuring data security and safety, Computer and video conference rooms for training have been invested synchronously. In order to improve the quality and efficiency of network services, the University has signed a contract with 3COM Company, the Center of Information Technology Training and Application, to inspect, supervise and handle arising issues in the management and operation of the network system and the incidents of IT equipment of the Faculty and the University, ensuring smooth teaching and research activities. Basic internet quality is guaranteed and when there is a problem with the network, lecturers are always supported by technical staff. During the recent Covid epidemic, in order to deal with the fact that lecturers and students cannot study in the lecture halls, the University has cooperated with the VNU University of Technology to provide the address http://elearning.ussh.edu.vn and sponsored by UPM company software http://ussh.upm.com.vn to organize online teaching and learning. Most lecture halls are equipped with projectors, screens that serve the needs of teaching and learning of students as well as graduation thesis and scientific report defense of students. The University's computer lab with an area of ​​about 350m2, with 303 computers installed and connected to the Lan network, serving for training general and specialized computer skills for staffs and students. The self-assessment of lecturerss' performance of the academic year mission is done online on the University's information technology system to ensure quickness, efficiency and convenience. Every year, the University has surveys to assess the satisfaction of students about the information technology system of the University for learners.

The FPS is equipped with an IT system that is suitable, convenient and regularly updated to support learning and teaching activities, scientific research of lecturers and students. Offices of the Faculty are equipped with computers connected to the Internet and intranet. Since the 2017-2018 academic year, the University has upgraded and covered the entire campus with wireless internet (wifi), facilitating the search of online materials for lecturers and students. In addition, to ensure continuous connection, the Faculty has an internal wifi transmitter. Registration, notification of class and exam schedules, and other matters are done through the student portal and email system.

The Faculty is currently managing and using 12 computers, which are distributed in the rooms of Faculty Board, Office of Faculty, assistant offices, library and Department offices. In addition, the Faculty is also equipped with 01 screen and a projector located in room 214 for meetings, seminars, thesis and dissertation defenses, 01 portable projector, 01 photocopier, 04 printers and 01 scanner. Every year, the Faculty computer system is updated, supplemented, replaced and upgraded to ensure the effectiveness of the Faculty's scientific research and training tasks.

 

The standards for environment, health and safety; and access for people with special needs are defined and implemented

Located in the campus, the FPS and the University always focus on meeting the requirements of the campus space. Over the past years, the University has signed a contract with Thanh Cong Cooperative, and the Green Planet Joint stock company. Every day, the staff of the two companies are responsible for cleaning and ensuring the University's sanitation and safety. As a result, the University's standards of safety and environmental sanitation meet the requirements of Hanoi City in all aspects. At the Faculty, to ensure clean and green environment, the Faculty has signed a contract directly with a cleaning staff to work for the offices and functional rooms of the Faculty. In general, the pedagogical landscape of the University and of the faculty is good.

Every year, the University cooperates with VNU Hospital to conduct periodic spraying to prevent epidemics, testing of drinking and domestic water. Hanoi Department of Health often inspects the University’s hygiene and appreciates the investment of facilities and environmental sanitation. The environment of the Faculty and the University is increasingly enhanced with a system of green trees which is increasing in quantity and quality. Regarding food safety standards, the University built its own canteen in the yard of the Block B-C. This canteen got a city food safety certificate when it was put into use.

VNU Hospital is located at Me Tri dormitory, which is responsible for health care for staff and students of the whole university including FPS. The hospital is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week . The Hospital sent medical staff and set up an emergency room from 7:00 to 21:00 in the University area. Every lecturer and employee has a medical record. Annually, the University's staffs are given periodic health checks organized and paid by the University’s Labor Union.

VNU requires students to join health insurance service. Students in the first year after enrolment and students in the last year before graduation are required to take a full health examination held by the University. In addition, during the learning process, students also participate in free counseling sessions for health information support organized by the University.

During the Covid epidemic that outbreak in early 2020, the University had practical guidelines and activities for the prevention of epidemics, ensuring the safety of officials and students. The teaching and learning of all lecturerss and students has been actively supported in all aspects by the University to switch to online teaching and learning to meet the practical situation set by the epidemic. The University has provided practical support to students who cannot go home during the epidemic. In the offices, hallways and lecture halls, the University has posted leaflets on covid prevention and equipped hand washing bottles to prevent infection for everyone.

To ensure security and safety, the University arranges security forces under the Office of Administration with sufficient numbers (11 people) who meet the task requirements and often receive professional training to protect assets, maintain security in the campus not only during working days but also during holidays.

The University has issued rules, regulations on access to the campus, the use of lecture halls, parking lot and the requirements for security guards, officials, students of the University and visitors.

Regarding fire and explosion prevention and fighting, the University has set up a fire prevention and fighting team to set up monitoring books and records of management as well as put forward safety rules on fire fighting in the campus. Annually, the University also has the funding to invest and maintain the fire prevention and fighting equipment.

The University has installed security alarm systems in the Office for Finance and Planning (on the 4th floor of Building E); automatic fire alarm system in some places prone to fire and explosion. Currently the University has 05 water pumps, 03 underground water tanks with a capacity of 200 m3 ready for fire prevention. The University building blocks and offices of all faculties are equipped with fire extinguishers. At the FPS, the fire system is located on both sides of the corridor of working rooms, easy to observe and convenient to use when there is a fire or explosion. Every year, the University regularly inspects, recharges and promptly replaces the fire extinguishers in the University. Besides, the University annually organizes training modules on fire prevention for officials and students.

The public facilities in the campus for people with disabilities has been put into consideration. Building E has a separate walkway for wheelchair users to support students with disabilities to move to the functional rooms.
